In 1968, noted local golf architect, Pete Craig put the finishing touches on what was then Rochester's newest private course, Thunder Ridge Country Club, in Rush.  In 1978 the course name was changed to Wild Wood Country Club and became semi-private, allowing daily fee play. Typical of his designs, Craig used much of the hilly wooded terrain and meandering creek to create one of the most picturesque courses in the area.  Wild Wood offers a "picture calendar" of holes for those preferring a challenge in a scenic setting.

In 1990, David Wang of Rush, NY purchased the club and with infusion of capital the course has been transformed into one the area's most aesthetic layouts. Today Wild Wood remains semi-private with the look of a more expensive private facility. Cart paths have been added throughout the course, allowing play from April through November. Drainage has been improved and irrigation has been enhanced to create one of the areas finest courses.    

Wild Wood enjoys a Blue Tee course rating of 73.4 and 146 slope, on par with the best private clubs in the area. The main piece of essential course knowledge is to avoid hitting over the greens. Several greens have trouble behind them, making club selection crucial. Craig took full advantage of a creek that winds its way through the back nine. Water comes in to play on every hole (on the back nine) except the 10th and 18th. The course rewards you for choosing the right club and staying in the fairways.
